Artist’s Bio
Born and raised in Milwaukee, I was educated at the University of Wisconsin - Madison followed by a Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Upon graduation, I worked in the business world for 25 years, always seeking out the artistic opportunities. Art has always been an interest and recently, in my retirement, has turned into a passion!
Artist’s Statement
I have always found that ‘Visual Art’, of all the creative arts, moves me and excites me. As a young child, I tried to figure out how “to make something pretty”. Now as an adult, I find I am still working on it. I hope to make something that moves me and also causes my viewer to feel the beauty thru the colors.
I have discovered that oil paints give me the most depth of color and texture while allowing for my own flexibility. As far as subject matter, I turn to nature. I will frequently ‘plein air’ paint to document nature on location. Occasionally, I use my camera to catch the beauty of nature and then work on pieces in studio. Each technique enhances the other and provides me with lots of variety.
In addition to the Oil Painting, I also work in charcoal. Primarily, the charcoal is used for commissions creating portraits of adorable pets. Using charcoal is an exercise in values and helps to supplement and enhance my painting skills.
I travel extensively between Wisconsin and Florida which provides opportunity to see and document the beauty of nature at different locations and various times of the day. This continues to provide the ongoing challenge to capture the vision in Oil and nourish my passion.
